Lake Tahoe Research Group facilities
and laboratory, Sage
Hen Natural Reserve, White Mountains
Research Station and return to Davis via Yosemite
National Park
International Students Only
September 14
Special comprehensive orientation program for new international students.
Please check in with the Services for International Students and Scholars
(SISS). All entering international students are required to check in with
SISS no later than the first day of instruction. Times and locations are
available at the SISS Office.
September 16, 9:00 AM, 1100 Social Science and Humanities
Examination in English - photo identification required, 9:00 AM
Sharp - 11:30 AM, 1100 Social Sciences and Humanities Building. Examination
is required for all new international students whose native language is
not English. Call (530) 752-3464 if you require additional information.
Graduate Group in Ecology Orientation Meeting
September 18, 2009, 8:30 AM, 126 Wellman Hall
New Student Orientation - REQUIRED. Registration
and refreshments will begin at 8:30 AM. Group Photo taken at 9:00 AM.
Orientation Meeting will begin after the group photo. Afternoon sessions
with AOE Chair, Adviser and Student Representatives.
Stebbins Cold
Canyon Reserve Field Trip
September 19, 8:00 AM
Field Trip to Stebbins Cold Canyon Natural Reserve with Dr. Philip Ward,
Entomology Department. Bring sunscreen, water and hat! Wear light clothing
for hot dry weather and comfortable light hiking shoes.
McLaughlin Reserve
Field Trip
September 19-20, 8:00 AM
Cathy Koehler and Paul Aigner, Resident Directors, will lead this field
trip. Bring a bag lunch, sunscreen, water, and hat. Wear light layered
clothing for possible hot or cool weather, and comfortable light hiking
shoes. Long pants are recommended. There are two options to choose from:
1) overnight stay with visit coming straight from Stebbins the previous
day, 2) McLaughlin Field Trip in a one-day round trip on Sept 20.
TA Orientation. The date of your orientation is dependent on the department that is hiring you. Please refer to: http://trc.ucdavis.edu/?page_id=360 for the schedule. New TA’s are required to attend an orientation for new teaching assistants. You must register with TRC. International students, or anyone for whom English is not their first language, are encouraged to attend an additional optional session. Please refer to: http://trc.ucdavis.edu for more information. You must also take the SPEAK test of oral English proficiency before beginning duties as a teaching assistant. Please register with the Teaching Resources Center, 17 Wellman Hall, in order to take the exam.

Ridge Reserve Field Trip

Field Trip to Putah Creek Riparian Reserve with Dr. Truman Young and Reserve
Manager Andrew Fulks. Followed by a field trip to the Quail Ridge Reserve
with Dr. Douglas Kelt, Wildlife, Fish and Conservation Biology Department.
Bring a bag lunch, sunscreen, water and hat. Wear light clothing for hot
dry weather and comfortable light hiking shoes.
Chancellor's Convocation
September 23, 10:00 AM, Mondavi Center
Ecology Welcome Dinner
October 1, 6:00 PM, Putah Creek Lodge All new and continuing
students, faculty and staff are invited. Family members or a guest are
welcome. Parking permits are required, and can be purchased on site. Please
