Ecology GSR Compensation Plan

The Graduate Group in Ecology is in the top tier of programs in its field. The Graduate Group in Ecology offers distinct programs leading to the Master in Science and the Ph.D. The scope and type of funding available to faculty in the field leads the Executive Committee of the Graduate Group in Ecology to adopt the following compensation plan for the GSR (the default compensation plan). Students should be hired for a minimum of 50% appointment.

Master’s Students

Step I – Students with a bachelor’s degree

Step II - Students with a bachelor’s degree and at least one or more years of graduate study, or extensive appropriate work experience but without a master’s degree.

Doctoral Students

Step I - A student with a bachelor’s degree, with less than one year of graduate study and without extensive work experience.

Step II - Students with a bachelor’s degree and at least one or more years of graduate study, or extensive appropriate work experience but without a master’s degree.

Step III - Students with one or more year’s experience, or that have completed a master’s degree.

PhD Students Advancement to candidacy

Step IV - A student that has advanced to candidacy for the PhD degree.

Step V - Doctoral students making normal academic progress advance one step at the beginning of fall quarter in the year subsequent to advancement to candidacy.

Steps VI-X - Doctoral students who have completed research but have not filed appropriate documentation of completion of requirements for the degree with the Office of Graduate Studies. The minimum step is VI, hiring PhD students for anything above this is allowed at the PI's discretion.
